£68,000-a-week defender given green light to leave with Nottingham Forest interested – Romano

Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Nottingham Forest linked player.

Sources will undoubtedly link Forest to a number of players this month given the club’s transfer history, but it’s important to remember that quality over quantity will once again be the guiding principle.

Ben Godfrey only joined Atalanta during the summer transfer window, paying £10 million to leave Everton for the Champions League team.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the player is not in Gian Piero Gasperini’s favor and will be let to depart this month before the transfer window closes.

Godfrey earns £68,000-a-week with the Serie A outfit but has managed just five appearances for the team this season, failing to start a single game.

The versatile defender can play anywhere defensively and so far he’s been linked with both Forest and Wolves as the player looks set to return to England before the window closes.

Forest can do better than Godfrey

Given the success of Forest in the transfer market in recent times nobody will be dismissing any player before they arrive at the club.

In the end, the recruitment staff has gained the support of the supporters, particularly in light of the outstanding work completed during the summer transfer window.

However, considering that he doesn’t seem to be an improvement over any defender in the Forest ranks, Godfrey would feel like a somewhat lackluster addition.

Since Morato, Nikola Milenkovic, and Murillo are all regarded as extremely valuable choices, he would not have any chance of playing at center defense.

Godfrey would have fierce competition from Ola Aina, who has been outstanding, and Neco Williams, who has significantly improved, as a full-back.

Additionally, Alex Moreno is in reserve, and it’s difficult to see Godfrey as an improvement above him.

Although the 26-year-old former Everton player fits many of the requirements for the type of player Forest is seeking, we aren’t totally sure this deal would be beneficial for the team this month.
