Clement is ready to approve a loan move for a player he has released from the first team, according to reports.
According to the Daily Record, Philippe Clement is ready to sanction a loan move for Rangers defender Leon King in the January transfer window.
The newspaper reported on its website on Thursday (7 December) that while the Gers manager is aware of the 19-year-old’s talent, he cannot guarantee him regular minutes in the first team at Ibrox.
It goes on to say that the Belgian will look into “suitable options” for the Scotland U-21 international, who has recently been left out of the Light Blues squad.
Game time is required.
Clement made a wise decision here because there is no doubt King is a talented player who will want to ensure he gets regular game time.
It wouldn’t normally be an issue because he is still so young, but because the centre-back played a significant amount for the Gers last season, it’s critical that his career doesn’t come to a halt.
It’s also pointless for him to stay at Ibrox if he’s not even making the bench, as Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, John Souttar, and Ben Davies are all ahead of him in the pecking order.
It’s unclear where the Scotsman will end up on loan, but there will undoubtedly be plenty of clubs interested in signing him.
A chance to play regular football in the second half of the season will benefit him as he looks to force his way into contention for the Light Blues next season.
