Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks receive positive Seth Curry update amid Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving injury absences
Fortunately, the Dallas Mavericks’ injury report will not get any fuller on Friday. With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, among others, already ruled out for tonight’s road game against the Houston Rockets, Mavericks fans will be relieved to hear the latest on Seth Curry.
According to the team’s press release, the veteran guard is available after dealing with back spasms and will serve as a focal point for a severely undermanned squad. Curry’s return to Dallas has not resulted in the surge in production many expected, with the guard shooting only 39.8 percent from the field this season, but he remains a dangerous perimeter threat.
The 33-year-old is connecting on 40.4 percent of his long-distance attempts and scoring 4.5 points per game in 12 minutes. His role should be expanded as the Mavericks’ injuries mount. The team’s strong start has naturally given way to a drop-off.
Dallas has lost three of its last four games and will be tested to the limit against the tenacious Rockets. It’s difficult enough to be without your All-Star backcourt, especially MVP candidate Luka Doncic, but head coach Jason Kidd is also missing key supporting players in Dereck Lively II, Dante Exum, Josh Green, and Maxi Kleber.
The Mavericks could have a rough night at the Toyota Center. The good news is that when fully healthy, the team has proven to be a threat. Even in a long season, it is critical to avoid injuries. Dallas cannot fall behind and be forced to claw its way back into the playoff picture.
That did not go well for the Mavericks last season and is a depressing scenario to consider this year. Seth Curry will do everything he can to help them win again on Friday night.
