Sky Sports pundit advises Rangers to sign a £3 million striker who has “been over the course”
Rangers fans are debating whether Philippe Clement should try to sign Lawrence Shankland this transfer window.
The Gers manager is well aware of the 28-year-old’s goal-scoring abilities, but whether or not to bring the Hearts captain into his squad is a cost-versus-benefit decision.
Kris Boyd was one man who knew how to score goals, and in an interview with Sky Sports, he urged Rangers to shop locally and bring Lawrence Shankland to Ibrox.
Rangers give Lawrence Shankland transfer seal of approval.
The price tag appears to be at the centre of most debates, but the former Light Blues hitman makes a valid point:
“Looking at it, we’re often quick to dismiss players in this league. He has travelled far and wide in this league, and he has scored goals here.
“I would not be against it. When you look at the money Rangers spent over the summer. Would you have gotten more for your money by spending it on Lawrence Shankland? “You probably would.”
Would Rangers fans like to see £4 million spent on Lawrence Shankland?
Would they rather have spent £3 million on Sam Lammers or £4 million on Cyriel Dessers to sign Lawrence Shankland?
I would like to believe that most fans would agree on that point.
Rangers cannot avoid spending money after the way it was spent in the summer, even if Hearts may reject any offers.
Short-term loans cannot fill holes or solve all problems.
Further investment is required.
It should also be noted that not every player is required to make a profit.
It’s frustrating that we won’t get what we paid for Lammers and Dessers back, but if the reported £3 million was paid for Shankland, as Boyd suggests, you’d know what you’re getting, and there’s a reason he’s one of many players being linked.
Goals.
And Rangers need someone like Lawrence Shankland to do what too many other players have struggled to do this season: score goals.
