Nottingham Forest sent a warning message to Ivan Toney ahead of Brentford’s return.
Latest Nottingham Forest news: Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds face Brentford in the Premier League.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney says he is “hungry” to repay the faith shown in him as he prepares to make his comeback against Nottingham Forest.
The 27-year-old is nearing the end of an eight-month suspension for violating Football Association betting rules. His suspension expires next Wednesday (January 17), making him available to face the Reds a few days later, on Saturday.
Forest’s match against the Bees was rescheduled to accommodate the winter break. Toney would not have been eligible to play if the original date of this Saturday (January 13) had been honoured.
If he plays against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the Gtech Community Stadium, it will be his first first-team appearance since last May. With his team a point and a place below the Reds in the Premier League table, the forward is eager to make an impact.
“I am hungry.” “Hungry and excited,” he told the Daily Mirror. “It’s difficult to be out for so long, especially if you’re not injured. “I’m eager to return to football and pursue my passion.”I know a lot of people are wondering, ‘Can he do this, or can he do that?’ or ‘How’s he going to be when he returns?’ I know what I’m capable of, so when I get on the pitch, I’ll just do my best.”
Toney has been linked with a departure from the Bees this month. But he wants to repay Brentford and manager Thomas Frank for sticking by him during a difficult period.
“The club was right behind me from the beginning. “The fans were behind me, which was a huge part,” Toney told Sky Sports during the joint interview.
“There is always unfinished business when you haven’t played for a while. It is in your head. “I’m excited to return and surprise everyone.”I know a lot of people are wondering, ‘Can he do this, or can he do that?’ or ‘How’s he going to be when he returns?’ I know what I’m capable of, so when I get on the pitch, I’ll just do my best.”
“Everyone knows Brentford is a family club, and they have been nothing but amazing to me. I cannot thank them enough, particularly the fans. They were also behind me since the first minute. So I feel like I have a lot to repay.
