Nottingham Forest
Gibbs-White, Elanga, Awoniyi – Most recent Nottingham Forest injury update ahead of the Brentford clash.
Latest Nottingham Forest news: Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds face Bees in Premier League clash.
Nottingham Forest will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Brentford.
The Reds’ winter break was shorter than they would have liked because they had an FA Cup replay against Blackpool on Wednesday night. Nuno’s side advanced to the fourth round after a Chris Wood goal in extra time, and they will now travel to the capital for their first Premier League game of 2024.
Forest is still without several players due to injury. Here’s a look at where things stand right now.
Morgan Gibbs-White
Injury: Abdomen.
What has been said: “He already did his scan,” Nuno stated during his pre-match press conference on Friday morning. “Unfortunately he has an injury. He is recovering, he is getting better, but for now he is not available. One more week, hopefully.”
Anthony Elanga
Injury: Thigh.
What we know: The 21-year-old was substituted in the final minutes of last month’s 2-1 victory against former club Manchester United due to a knock. He will miss this weekend’s game against the Bees.
What has been said: “We hope soon, we are no sure yet,” Nuno said. “But tomorrow for sure he is not available.”
Divock Origi’s injury status remains unknown.
What we know: The forward has not played since he was an unused substitute in Newcastle United’s Boxing Day victory. He remains sidelined.
What has been said: “Let’s see how Divock is, he is still recovering. Something is not comfortable,” Nuno stated last week. “He improves but then today in the training session he worked but in the end he felt something that doesn’t give him comfort. We are going to do an MRI again to see if there is something. Hopefully he is going to be available, but that is the doubt we have.”
Felipe
Injury: Hamstring.
What we know: The centre-back returned from a long-term knee injury at the beginning of December. He returned to action against Everton, Fulham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers after being absent since the summer. He was then forced to withdraw from training the day before Forest’s match against Tottenham Hotspur due to a hamstring injury.
Taiwo Awoniyi
Injury: Groin.
What we know: The striker is making good progress in his recovery from groin surgery and could return sooner than expected, despite initially expecting a three-month absence. He last played for the Reds on November 12 in a 3-2 loss to West Ham United, and he has been sorely missed.
What has been said: “The last information we had is that he is progressing. He is already training on the pitch, doing some individual work,” Nuno stated earlier this week.
“Hopefully in two weeks’ time he can start joining the group, and then it’s about how he feels with his fitness levels. But we are talking about two weeks’ time for him to hopefully join the group.”
