Sunderland ‘keen’ on an ex-Liverpool winger as Jack Clarke’s ‘long-term’ replacement, according to reports.
Sunderland has been linked with a new name in the January transfer window.
Sunderland are interested in Canadian winger Liam Millar, according to recent reports.
Alan Nixon has stated that the Black Cats are interested in signing the attacker as Jack Clarke’s long-term replacement. According to his report, Sunderland were ‘impressed’ by Millar’s loan spell at Championship rivals Preston from Swiss club Basel.
Millar came up through the ranks at Liverpool and spent time on loan at Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic before signing a permanent deal with Basel in 2021. Millar then joined North End on loan during the summer window, appearing 21 times, scoring three goals and contributing four assists.
According to Nixon, “Sunderland could move for Millar in this window, but are more likely to wait until the end of the season unless a big offer comes in for Clarke.” Sunderland are reportedly demanding a fee of around £18 million, with Brentford said to be interested in the former Leeds United player.
