Nottingham Forest in ‘advanced talks’ to land Ajax star and update on Gio Reyna transfer

Carlos Borges, former Manchester City U18s player of the season, could join Nottingham Forest from Dutch club Ajax.

Nottingham Forest are in ‘advanced talks’ with Dutch club Ajax about bringing Carlos Borges to the City Ground this month, according to reports.

The 19-year-old only moved to the Netherlands last summer, signing a five-year contract with the Eredivisie giants after leaving Manchester City for a £12 million fee. Borges came up through the Premier League champions’ youth academy and won the U18s Player of the Season award in 2021.

However, after only 16 appearances and one goal for Ajax, he appears to be on his way back to the Premier League, becoming Nuno Espirito Santo’s first signing at Forest.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media platform X Last night:  “Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Carlos Borges from Ajax on loan deal. Negotiations on, Ajax have been approached by #NFFC to bring Carlos back to Premier League.”

However, it appears that Borges is not the only player in the Forest manager’s sights, as Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna is also wanted at the City Ground. Romano added, “Forest want both Borges & Gio Reyna.”

Today’s update from Fabrizio Romano states that new talks have now been scheduled as Forest and Dortmund plan to thrash out the finer details.

Reyna, the son of former Premier League player Claudio Reyna, has been a Dortmund youth player since 2019. The 21-year-old has made 120 appearances for the Bundesliga club in four and a half seasons, scoring 17 goals.

Espirito Santo is looking to strengthen his Forest squad as the club attempts to avoid relegation. The Portuguese manager will be hoping that signing Borges and Reyna will provide the ammunition the club needs to maintain its top-tier status.
