Brendan Rodgers is silent about Celtic’s Idah deal.

Celtic finally announced the highly anticipated signing of Adam Idah around 10:30 p.m. last night, an hour before the transfer window closed.

The Norwich City striker signs on loan until the end of the season, with no option for a permanent move.

Idah’s move had been predicted since Tuesday evening; it came a fortnight after Nicolas Kuhn’s signing, giving the club’s media team plenty of time to roll out new signing-related content.
The club announcement lacked one important detail: Brendan Rodgers’ endorsement. In the only Idah story on the Celtic website, there was no mention of the manager, who stated in November that four quality signings were needed when he returned to the club in June.

When Kuhn joined on January 16, Rodgers informed the club website:

We are thrilled to welcome Nicolas to Celtic. We believe he is a dynamic player with high quality and all the necessary characteristics to fit into our style of play.

He fits the profile we’re looking for: a player with a strong attacking intent, great pace and ideas, the ability to create and score goals, and a high energy and work ethic.

He can play wide on both sides, which adds versatility to our team, and I and the coaches here are excited to work with him.
The tweet announcing Idah’s signing sparked a wave of criticism directed at the Celtic board, particularly Chairman Peter Lawwell. There was concern and support for the player caught in the crossfire.

Rodgers is expected to hold a media conference today to preview Saturday’s game at Aberdeen. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt O’Riley, and Reo Hatate are all nursing injuries, but the manager’s thoughts on Celtic’s transfer activity will take precedence.

David Turnbull was sold to Cardiff City yesterday, and Mikey Johnston went on loan to West Brom; neither deal is mentioned on the Celtic website.
