“Way below par” – Pundit on Celtic Captain
Gordon Dalziel, a Clyde Superscoreboard pundit, did not mince words when discussing Celtic captain Callum McGregor’s performances this season.
McGregor had a poor start to the season and appeared to be struggling more than most under returning manager Brendan Rodgers’ tweaks and changes to the team and style of play.
He did, however, face ‘Rangers’ and put in outstanding performances at Ibrox and Celtic Park in both victories.
However, much like Kyogo this season, he appears to have had another dip in and is unable to have a significant impact on the reset of our league matches.
“Now, talk about Callum McGregor. “I’m a Callum McGregor fan, and I think he’s a fantastic player,” Dalziel said on last night’s show.
“Callum McGregor is way below par.”
“I don’t care what you’re saying about formations or anything, Callum McGregor is not playing the way Callum McGregor plays.”
He later added:
“I keep returning to it. “The captain is my main man.”
“He’s the leader. He’s the one everybody looks up to. He’s the guy who talks in the huddle.”
“He is the guy who’s won everything at Celtic. He knows what it takes.”
“Whether he’s just having a real run of bad form I don’t know, but he’s not contributing anything!”
McGregor hasn’t been as effective at controlling games this season as he has in prior years. He is the player who drives us forward, and when he is not on his game, the team suffers.
We desperately need him to regain form quickly because we have a long four months ahead of us and he will be critical to us keeping the league title.
