‘The Difference’… Enzo Maresca reveals whether he thinks his Leicester City team is better than Leeds United.
Enzo Maresca has spoken out about the size of the gap he believes exists between his Leicester City side and Leeds United.
Leicester are currently on track to break Reading’s Championship points record of 106 from the 2005/06 season, having amassed an incredible 78 after 32 matches.
The Foxes are 12 points ahead of Leeds in second place, despite the fact that the Whites, Southampton, and Ipswich Town all score more than two points per game. It is a standard that has never been seen at this level.
Leeds, of course, were hampered by a chaotic summer window, which had a negative impact on the start of their season, but Leicester’s consistency has been incredible.
Maresca says there’s not much of a gap between Leicester and Leeds.
He stated, “All of the statistics are good during the season, but they can improve if you meet the final goal. Unfortunately, we need a few more wins. The trajectory and path are good, and we have finished first in 26 of the 32 games. That reveals the players’ mentality.
“Southampton and Leeds are doing great. I am confident that Ipswich will continue to fight until the end. We’re still there. The difference between us, Southampton, and Leeds in the last 25 games has been minimal.”
Leicester were able to get their ducks in a row faster than Leeds and Southampton this summer. Key players James Maddison and Harvey Barnes were quickly sold, and replacements were brought in.Leicester’s season has only just begun, but they have demonstrated incredible consistency.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Maresca acknowledged that the gap between the three relegated teams has been very small over the last 25 games.
However, once Leeds and Southampton were able to establish stable squads, all three sides, including Ipswich, improved dramatically. The Saints’ 22-match unbeaten streak ended on Tuesday.
Maresca has already admitted that he believes Leeds are the best counter-attacking team in the division, and despite all of the praise from the Leicester manager, they are the clear favourites for promotion.
As for Leeds and the other two teams, whoever misses out on promotion in May will be extremely disappointed given the high standard.
