According to Fabrizio Romano, Celtic and Rangers are on the verge of losing out on a free agent left-back.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Celtic and Rangers are on the verge of losing Gijs Smal after Feyenoord agreed to terms with the left-back.
According to Dutch news outlet 1908, Celtic wanted to sign the FC Twente No.5 on a free transfer when his contract expired this summer.
Brendan Rodgers is looking for a new left back after allowing Alexandro Bernabei to leave Celtic Park.
According to a story from Voetbal International in the Netherlands, Rangers were also interested.
According to Romano, Smal is now on the move, with Feyenoord set to sign him after rejecting other offers.
The reliable Italian journalist wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “The agreement between Feyenoord and Gijs Smal to join as a free agent in the summer is almost done, despite no formal confirmation from the player side yet.

“Verbal pact in place and soon time to sign the contract as Smal turned down a proposal from abroad to join Feyenoord.”
Smal has made 20 appearances for FC Twente in all competitions this season, assisting once and picking up two yellow cards.
Blow for Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Clement.
This is unfortunate for the two Scottish giants, as Smal represented a very appealing market opportunity this summer.
The Dutchman has even been compared to Paolo Maldini in his homeland due to his consistently excellent defensive performances, earning the nickname Smaldini.
At the age of 26, Smal would have been a viable long-term option for the left-back position.
Nonetheless, Celtic and Rangers should look elsewhere, as Feyenoord is close to signing the defender.
