Celtic’s Transfer Dilemma: The Pursuit of Hugo Bueno
Following a disappointing January transfer window, Celtic made it known that the majority of their targets, including Hugo Bueno of Wolves were not available.
Brendan Rodgers needed new legs, especially at full back, but he was left without any defensive reinforcements.
One player was Bueno. Although Celtic was keen to sign, their attempts were unsuccessful as the Premier League team preferred to keep their squad depth intact.
But TEAMtalk revealed that the Wolves left-back could still make a summer transfer to Celtic Park.
Although Wolves turned down Celtic’s January offer to sign him on loan until the end of the season, the player expressed interest in playing in Scotland.
The Hoops could offer the 21-year-old that chance in the summer. He is eager to see regular playing time.
In the race for Wolves full-back, Celtic faces competition.
Celtic has made it a top priority to sign a new left-back, and Bueno has long been a target for the Scottish champions.
According to TEAMtalk sources, clubs in France and Spain are expected to make an offer for him during the next window, so they will have competition for his services.
For a meagre £3,000, Bueno joined Wolves in 2019 from the minor league CD Areosa in Spain. In just three years, the 20-year-old advanced from the under-18 squad to the starting lineup.
He has only started four Premier League games this season as he has struggled to secure a spot in Gary O’Neil’s squad.
This summer, Wolves will likely receive several bids for some of their key players, including Pedro Neto, who is anticipated to depart for a large sum of money.
Some of the biggest teams in Europe are also interested in Rayan Alt-Nouri, and his departure might be the only thing stopping Bueno from leaving.
With several Wolves players expected to leave in the summer, Bueno might have to step in. He is also under contract until 2028, and the Midlands team views him as a key player going forward.
Footfell and Echo, who also handle players like Lautaro Martinez and former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, represent Bueno.
Some believe Bueno will join the Gers because of their ties to Celtic’s fierce rivals, but they also have an agreement in place for Brazilian defender Jefte as a backup.
