Celtic will be worried after Lawrence Shankland latest from Rangers
Frank McAvennie has insisted Celtic must “be aware” if Hearts hotshot Lawrence Shankland seals a move to Rangers this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland and Celtic striker asserted that while the 28-year-old wouldn’t succeed in the Premier League, signing him would be a “step in the right direction” for the Ibrox team.
Hearts refused to let go of Shankland in the middle of the season, despite Rangers’ desire to make a late bid to sign him during the winter transfer window, as Football Insider reported earlier this year (January 26).
The striker, whose contract with Hearts expires in May 2025, has hinted that he won’t be renewing because he may move elsewhere.
In 40 games this season, the nine-cap Scotland international has six assists and 27 goals.
Celtic needs to exercise caution as Shankland rumours at Rangers intensify.
Shankland, according to McAvennie, lacks the quickness to play in England but might be a success at Rangers.
“I don’t understand why the Shankland rumours are all over the place if there’s nothing in it,” he said to Football Insider. All I’m hearing is that it will occur.
“I believe he would succeed at the Rangers.”His pace is too slow for England. Regretfully, for him, the Premier League revolves around speed.
However, Shankland is a very skilled player who has excellent footwork. Does he have enough speed to play in England? No.In Scotland, he will score goals.
“I think it’ll be interesting if he goes to Ibrox; Celtic will have to be aware of it; they’ll be concerned. It’s a real step in the right direction.”
