A Champions League defender’s agent has revealed that Celtic is hoping to sign his client this summer.
Plans for a Celtic transfer are in motion.
With a victory over Rangers in the Scottish Cup final this coming weekend, Brendan Rodgers’ team has a chance to complete a career grand slam.
But soon, the transfer market will be the focus, as Celtic executives are reportedly making preparations behind closed doors. When asked earlier this month about the club’s readiness for the upcoming season as we approach the summer window, Rodgers responded that preparations are “well underway” at Parkhead.
That is what we must do. That much is evident. But as we move forward into a really promising future with the club, I’m really excited about that. The team is obviously not as strong as I would have liked it to be, but the players have provided me with incredible support up to this point, making this season a true challenge. However, we have a task to become much stronger the following year, and work on that is well under way.
According to reports, Celtic wants to sign a new striker, winger and custodian at the very least. Replacing Joe Hart, who is retiring, may be the top priority. Shot stoppers Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool, Ugurcan Cakir of Trabzonspor, Anthony Patterson of Sunderland, Michael Zetterer of Werder Bremen, Alex McCarthy of Southampton, and Koen Casteels of Wolfsburg are among those who have been linked to a move to Glasgow.
A permanent offer to sign Norwich City loanee Adam Idah is reportedly in the works, but defensive additions—especially at left-back—also seem to be desirable. Defensor interested in Champions League confirmed by agent for Celtic
Irakli Azarovi, a left back for Shakhtar Donetsk, has an agent named Mamuka Jugeli, who claims that Celtic is “interested” in signing the Georgian international.
However, Azarovi is also coveted by unidentified clubs in France and Italy; Jugeli confirmed the Hoops’ interest to Geo Team on X.
Azarovi, who is only 22 years old, played for Dinamo Tbilisi before moving on to Dinamo Batumi in January 2021. Eighteen months later, he signed with Red Star Belgrade before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer.
The Ukrainian powerhouses have impressed him, and as a result, his Transfermarkt valuation has risen to a record-breaking €3.5 million. Azarovi has appeared in 32 games for Shakhtar overall, including the Champions League this year.
As far as we know, the Hoops will be able to provide Champions League football the following season, so it seems reasonable that a new left-back would arrive at Celtic Park before then. After Alexandro Bernabei was sent on loan to Internacional in Brazil, Greg Taylor is currently the only recognised left-back available to Rodgers; therefore, Azarovi may compete with Taylor in the upcoming campaign.
Hence, Azarovi may want to consider making a move, particularly in light of his agent’s assertion.
