Alasdair Gold reveals what he has heard about Spurs and Hudson-Odoi

Alasdair Gold has disclosed that there are individuals within Tottenham who are downplaying rumours of a potential summer transfer for Callum Hudson-Odoi, the winger for Nottingham Forest.

Having moved from Chelsea last summer, Hudson-Odoi has been one of Forest’s best players this year, settling in quickly at the City Ground.

Over the past few weeks, a number of sources have claimed that Tottenham is planning to bring the 23-year-old back to London because they are impressed with what they have seen in him (Guardian).

Three Premier League teams were reportedly interested in the Blues academy graduate, according to a report from The Sun a few days ago, but Spurs were first in queue to sign him.

According to the article, Forest may have to sacrifice the winger despite their desire to keep him because of their current PSR position.

Gold has since disclosed, though, that his Hotspur Way sources have generally played down the rumours.

The journalist said to Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, in response to a question concerning Tottenham’s interest in Hudson-Odoi: “Interestingly, I saw some bits and pieces about Callum Hudson-Odoi out there in recent days.” It’s interesting to note that there appears to be resistance within Spurs that this is not the player they want.

“The homegrown viewpoint and the knowledge that Forest must sell players are two reasons I could understand it, but right now it seems like that’s not the person they’re going for.”

It’s possible that Tottenham saw Hudson-Odoi more as a backup option than as their top target for a winger. Given Forest’s financial circumstances, I wouldn’t be shocked if Spurs made a bold bid for the 23-year-old to test the waters.
