Celtic have a busy summer transfer window ahead of them as they attempt to make major additions for the title-defending 2024/25 season. The Hoops battled Rangers to win the title again, but they still need to fix certain holes in their roster before they can focus on reigning supreme in the Scottish Premiership for another season.

Brendan Rodgers and co. are scouring the market for a potential replacement following Joe Hart’s retirement. They will need to act soon, though, because Benjamin Siegrist is also plotting his next chapter as he considers leaving Parkhead this summer.

With Hart and Siegrist now out of the picture, Celtic have only one senior custodian in 32-year-old Scott Bain. Siegrist has accepted that he is not the next in line to replace Hart as Celtic’s number one, and he recently spoke with Swiss outlet Blick about his disappointments and probable future plans.

The 32-year-old is presently on holiday in Australia with his partner Brittany Hockley and has revealed that he intends to move there permanently in the future, but not in the near future. He has revealed, however, that he has no plans to stay at Celtic, despite having two years remaining on his present contract. Siegrist has hinted at a relocation to Europe as he approaches the end of his playing career.

“After my last day at work, I’ll leave as soon as possible. And I’ll never come back here [to Celtic],” he stated (via Football Scotland). “No. I’m going to retire there [Australia]. But not yet. Britt has already indicated that she could do her podcast from Europe. We’re excited.”

Siegrist joined the Hoops on a free transfer in 2022, after being released by Dundee United. During his stint with the Tangerines, he established himself as an important member of the team, making 145 appearances. However, after moving to Glasgow, he received little recognition.

Siegrist has made just two professional appearances for the Bhoys, both in the Scottish League Cup immediately after his arrival. However, he missed the semi-final and final win over Rangers after picking up a calf injury. He was sidelined for the majority of the season with this injury, missing a total of 26 games before being declared fit again. Even after returning from injury, the shot-stopper was not given another chance to show himself between the sticks.
