Oklahoma’s Jennie Barańczyk will make more than $1 million yearly after extension.

Oklahoma will now have three women’s head coaches earning more than $1 million in total compensation beginning with the 2024-25 athletic season, after the Board of Regents approved a new contract extension and raise for women’s basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk.

ARDMORE — Following Oklahoma’s second consecutive Big 12 regular-season title, head coach Jennie Baranczyk was given a contract extension and a raise.

Oklahoma’s Board of Regents approved conditions of a new contract for Baranczyk on Friday, ahead of the Sooners’ entrance to the SEC for the 2024–25 season. Baranczyk’s contract was extended for two years, through the 2029-30 season, and will continue until June 30, 2030.

Baranczyk’s base salary ($300,000) will remain constant throughout the contract, but her outside income from unrestricted private funds for personal services, fundraising, promotional, public relations, endorsements, speaking engagements, and all other OU-related contracts and activities will increase significantly from $300,000 to $625,000 per year. She will also receive a $50,000 boost on July 1, 2025, and every consecutive July 1 until the end of her contract. In addition, Barancyzk will be paid a $150,000 annual retention bonus.

According to the USA Today coaches salary database, Baranczyk earned $800,000 last season and was the 25th highest-paid women’s coach in the country, will now be paid $1.075 million in total for the upcoming season. The newly granted six-year agreement will be worth $9.45 million, with an average yearly value of $1.575 million. According to USA Today’s database, just 18 women’s head basketball coaches earned more than $1 million this season.

According to the new contract, Baranczyk will be eligible for a $30,000 bonus if he wins the SEC regular-season or tournament title. The 42-year-old Baranczyk, who was hired in 2021, has led the Sooners to back-to-back Big 12 regular-season championships in the previous two seasons, as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance in each of her three seasons in charge.
Oklahoma sports director Joe Castiglione stated following Friday’s Board of Regents meeting that the decision to extend Baranczyk’s contract and give her a raise was made to show the athletic department’s appreciation for the Sooners’ Big 12 success over the last two years.

In three seasons at Oklahoma, Baranczyk has a 74-26 overall record, winning 74% of her games and leading the Sooners to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Oklahoma made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in two of her first three seasons in Norman, including this year’s appearance. Prior to her employment in 2021, the Sooners had not made it to the NCAA Tournament since 2018.

In addition to Baranczyk’s new contract, Oklahoma’s Board of Regents granted salary increases for women’s basketball assistants Louis Ball, Jonas Chatterton, Shannon Gage, and Michael Neal. Gage, Neal, and Chatterson all signed one-year extensions through the 2024-25 season.

While Baranczyk’s raise and extension were noteworthy, she was not the only Oklahoma women’s head coach to get a new contract during Friday’s meeting. K.J. Kindler, the Sooners’ women’s gymnastics coach since 2006 and winner of six national titles, was also approved for a new contract that will keep her at OU through the 2031 season. Kindler will receive $1 million in total remuneration in the first year of the agreement, with annual raises of $50,000 in outside income and a $150,000 retention bonus each year on February 1.

That means Oklahoma will have three women’s head coaches earning more than $1 million for the upcoming season: Baranczyk, Kindler, and softball coach Patty Gasso ($1.825 million), who is coming off her fourth consecutive Women’s College World Series title.
