Outcast Sead Haksabanovic leads Celtic’s clearout as he joins the Champions League hopefuls
The winger spent last season on loan at Stoke City and will now secure a move to Swedish champions Malmo.
Sead Haksabanovic is set to join Swedish champions Malmo as Celtic begin their summer clearout.
The Montenegro international spent last season on loan at Stoke City, but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, scoring only once. Brendan Rodgers deemed the winger surplus to requirements, so his representatives have been working to find him a new club.
According to Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt, Haksabanovic has agreed to join Malmo, which will compete in this season’s Champions League qualifiers. According to reports, an official announcement will be made soon, marking the end of Haksabanovic’s two-year tenure at Celtic. A £1.7million signing from Rubin Kazan, the ex-West Ham ace put pen to paper on a bumper five-year deal.
He played frequently under Ange Postecoglou as Celtics stormed to a treble, but fell out of favour when Rodgers took over last year. Celtic were eager to recoup their investment in 2022 as Rodgers pared down his bloated squad.
Haksabanovic will not be the only fringe player to leave Parkhead in the coming weeks, as Ben Siegrist, Gustaf Lagerbielke, James McCarthy, and Oh Hyeon-gyu are also set to depart.
