Watford accepts star player could leave, with many clubs interested.

According to The Athletic, Watford are becoming more accepting of Yaser Asprilla’s potential exit, with interest from bigger clubs expected.

Watford have made attacking midfielder Asprilla a prized asset since signing from Colombian club Envigado in the winter of 2022.

Asprilla, who is still only 20, has made 86 appearances for the Hornets, scoring seven goals and assisting ten times. He has also been capped by Colombia six times, scoring twice and earning a spot in the Copa America squad this summer.

The illustrious tournament is coming to an end, and Asprilla will return to Vicarage Road soon.

With his return approaching and the summer transfer window well underway, it appears Watford are accepting that their star player may be on his way elsewhere.

According to The Athletic, the Championship club expects interest in Asprilla, and if their asking price is met, he will likely be sold. The Hornets are becoming more accepting of this reality, with bigger clubs around the world interested.

Is this the right move?

Watford discovered another top prospect when they signed Asprilla two and a half years ago. They’ve had great success signing South American stars in the past, and the Colombian appears to be another who will make the club a lot of money.

According to The Athletic, in an ideal world, Tom Cleverley would build his side around Asprilla. He will only improve, so his value will continue to rise.

However, it could be a wise decision to cash in now. His stock has risen following his Copa America campaign, and with top clubs interested, he should command a good fee.

These funds can be reinvested directly back into the team. It would provide Cleverley with the funds he needs to truly impact the squad at Vicarage Road, shaping it to his liking ahead of a season in which significant improvements are required.

Summer business to date.

While many new additions are required, the summer window has not begun with much vigour.

Mamadou Doumbia has finalised a deal that was agreed upon and announced earlier this year. Rocco Vata, who joins from Celtic, appears to be an exciting addition, while former custodian Jonathan Bond’s return was much-needed following Ben Hamer’s departure.

More signings are required, though, and a large sale could spark a significant increase in business. Asprilla is the most marketable asset at Vicarage Road, and with clubs interested, it may be best to cash in.
