“Sheffield Wednesday’s Shock Striker Signing-Exclusive Details Revealed!”
Sheffield Wednesday have signed Charlie McNeill, a teenage striker who formerly played for Manchester United.
According to BBC Sheffield, Charlie McNeill, a 20-year-old ex-Manchester United prospect, has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer and began pre-season training at St George’s Park on Tuesday.
It is generally known that the striker, who has a phenomenal scoring record at junior level for both Manchester City and the Old Trafford giants, trained at Middlewood Road as part of an experience-building plan during Darren Moore’s tenure at the club.
However, The Star can confirm that McNeill has spent time in Wednesday training in recent months as Röhl, his coaching staff, and the player himself have looked at the possibility of a future agreement ahead of his release from United. The brilliant former England youth international is claimed to have been impressed by the coaching staff’s approach and, despite interest from Serie A and the MLS, chose S6 as his preferred league.
According to the Star, after agreeing to a deal, McNeill underwent the first part of his Wednesday medical in Leeds on Tuesday morning before traveling to St George’s Park to meet his new teammates and seal the transfer. Wednesday are halfway through the first of their two pre-season training camps before heading to Germany for a training camp that will include friendly against RB Salzburg and Werder Bremen across the border in Austria.
McNeill, who is not considered an alternative to the still-coveted Ike Ugbo, joins Wednesday having previously played in the EFL on loan at Newport County and Stevenage. It is the latest deal in a hectic start to the transfer market that shows no signs of slowing down.
