Sheffield Wednesday’s work in the summer transfer window is far from complete, as they are currently looking for a former Chelsea midfielder named Nathaniel Chalobah.

The 29-year-old is presently a free agent after leaving West Bromwich Albion, and the Owls are looking to fill a defensive midfield position.

Wednesday have already had a busy few weeks since their transfers began with the arrival of Ben Hamer, with the recent acquisition of Charlie McNeill being the eighth of the window, and The Star understands that they are actively looking for more ahead of their second preseason trip to Austria and Germany later this month.

Chalobah, who came through Chelsea’s junior systems and has previously played for Watford and Fulham, is said to be a target for Danny Röhl as another new acquisition, and the hope is that they can fend off the obvious options that he has elsewhere to bring him on board.

Chalobah has a plethora of experience at this level, having made nearly 200 games in the Championship over the course of his career, but he also has 50 Premier League outings and one senior England cap, a cameo against Spain in 2018.

It remains to be seen how far the Owls’ interest extends at this time, but the former Napoli loanee will undoubtedly be viewed as a fascinating potential option if a deal can be reached to bring him to South Yorkshire.
