Connor Roberts: How much money does he make at Burnley in light of Leeds United’s possible reunion?

So far this summer, Leeds United’s incoming transfer business has revolved around reunions.

Joe Rodon was Elland Road’s first signing of the transfer window. The centre back returns to Tottenham on a permanent basis after spending last season on loan with the Whites.

Alex Cairns, a goalkeeper who came through the development ranks and began his senior career with Leeds, has returned on a permanent transfer from Salford City.

That may not be the end of the club’s reunions this summer, as Connor Roberts’ prospective comeback is also being discussed.

The right-back spent the second half of last season on loan with Daniel Farke’s Burnley team.

During his stint in Yorkshire, he appeared in 15 games across all competitions and helped Leeds reach the Championship play-off final, where they were defeated by Southampton and missed out on promotion.

The Whites are reportedly interested in re-signing Roberts on a permanent deal this summer, but YEP columnist Graham Smyth recently stated that no move is imminent.

But how much will they have to offer the right-back to get him to return to Leeds from Burnley this summer?

To help answer that question, we’ve looked at an estimated amount of Roberts’ current wage at Turf Moor, according to Capology.

Capology estimations place Roberts among the top 10 earners in Burnley’s current first-team roster.

Currently, the Wales international is estimated to be making £30,000 per week at Turf Moor, which means that there are seven players on a higher income at the Clarets.

The players are identified as Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen, Jay Rodriguez, Sander Berge, Nathan Redmond, Wout Weghorst, and Lyle Foster.

Roberts’ annual salary totals £1.56 million. With a year remaining on his present deal, Burnley may be able to pay him approximately this fee if no contract extension is agreed upon.

If Roberts makes the permanent transfer to Leeds this summer, he might find himself in a similar financial predicament as he is today at Turf Moor.

Leeds has higher incomes than Connor Roberts.

According to Capology’s projections, nine Leeds players might earn more than Roberts if he returns to Elland Road this summer on his current £30,000 per week deal at Burnley.

Leeds players, including Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo, Pascal Stuijk, Daniel James, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Ethan Ampadu, and Max Wober, are estimated to earn more than £30,000 per week at Elland Road. However, it is unclear if wage deductions at Leeds after relegation in 2023 are considered.

However, it is worth mentioning that Aaronson, Kristensen, and Wober were all on loan from Leeds during the most recent season.

As a result, several of the club’s long-term prospects are now uncertain.

Diego Llorente has left Real Betis permanently, while Kristensen and Wober are still awaiting decisions.

Both players are poised to return to the club after their Euros appearances.

As a result, if they leave, there will be more room in the wage budget for players like Roberts to sign.

Indeed, given Kristensen’s position as a right-back, his departure would heighten the need to sign someone like the Burnley man.

So, with that in mind, it could be argued that Leeds should be able to afford what is required to persuade Roberts to return to Elland Road, if they want and need him to do so.
