Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly appears to be leaving the club after declining a new contract offer, a decision that could exclude him from the first team’s pre-season plans. The 18-year-old, whose contract expires in January, is now free to negotiate with other clubs.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers commented on the situation, telling SunSport, “There’s no impasse as Daniel, he’s been offered a deal that is valued, and, with the greatest respect, I’ve worked with young players and I know where they’re at from a technical and financial standpoint.” Both of those boys have been offered contracts by the club.”

Kelly’s refusal to sign the proposed deal comes shortly after another Celtic youngster, Rocco Vata, decided not to renew his contract. This pattern of departures has raised concerns among fans about the club’s ability to keep its emerging players.

Despite breaking into the first team this season and scoring his first senior goal in a 7-1 thrashing of Dundee, Kelly’s future at Celtic appears bleak. His limited playing time during the title race may have influenced the midfielder’s decision.

Kelly’s contract expires in January, allowing the midfielder to consider offers from other clubs.
Rodgers confirmed Kelly’s exclusion: “I spoke with the agents and the player a few months ago and said, ‘Listen, if we can’t get this resolved by the summer, it’ll be very difficult to be with the team in pre-season.'” It’s that simple.
Kelly may follow in Vata’s footsteps, seeking greener pastures beyond Celtic, enticed by opportunities elsewhere and possibly better terms.
