Taiwo Awoniyi’s absence from Nottingham Forest training camp explained
Latest Nottingham Forest news as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds prepare for 2024/25 Premier League season
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi will miss the club’s preseason training camp in Spain.
The frontman will not travel with the Reds this week. He will miss the camp due to personal reasons.
Awoniyi’s absence is not due to injury. He did pick up a knock in training last week, as head coach Nuno Espirito Santo mentioned on Saturday, but it is understood that is not the reason he is missing the trip.
Forest has three friendlies scheduled for their time in Spain, all of which will take place at the Pinatar Arena. Nuno also wants to use the camp to help the team bond and integrate their summer signings.
The first match is against Sunderland on Friday (6pm BST kickoff). The Reds will then face Millwall next Tuesday (6pm BST) and Elche on Saturday (10am BST). The team’s pre-season schedule will conclude with a match against Villarreal at the City Ground on August 2 and a trip to Greece to face Olympiacos on August 8.
Last Saturday, Nuno’s side defeated Chesterfield 3-0 in their first friendly. Chris Wood, Josh Bowler, and Ibrahim Sangare each scored goals.
Awoniyi did not fight the Spireites for personal reasons. Nuno commented on his minor injury after the game, saying, “He had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let’s see how long this takes.
“It had something to do with his calves. Unfortunately, not (for today). Hopefully, he won’t miss much of the preseason. Pre-season is important for everyone, but especially for Taiwo.”
