“Unexpected Twist: Ex-Aston Villa and Liverpool Ace Joins Forces with Arsenal and Chelsea Legend, Alongside £24.8m Wolves Flop!”
A Wolves flop has been joined by a former Aston Villa and Liverpool goalkeeper.
Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina has joined with Serie A newcomers Como, extending his career.
Reina, 41, has signed a one-year contract with Como, who were promoted to the Italian top division earlier this year. Cesc Fabregas, a former player for Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea, will be his new boss.
Reina remarked after signing: “I arrive in a beautiful project, a family that continues to grow and strives to raise the bar every year.” I am returning to a league that I am familiar with and know to be very competitive; for my part, I want to contribute to the development of this club.
During the 2019/20 season, the former Liverpool goalkeeper was on loan at Villa and appeared in 12 games, keeping two clean sheets. He is most known for his eight-year stint at Anfield, where he played just under 400 games and helped the club win the Carabao Cup in 2012. Reina has played for Napoli, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan. In Germany and Italy, he won both the Bundesliga and Coppa Italia.
“We are thrilled to welcome Pepe to the club,” Fabregas stated on the official club website.
“He is a goalkeeper with extensive international experience and a strong competitive spirit. For these reasons, I am confident that his involvement will help the team grow and improve.
Several former Premier League players are likely to join Lombardy this summer, including the Spaniard.Raphael Varane is nearing completion of his deal from Manchester United, while Alberto Moreno is reportedly on their shortlist.
Como already has Patrick Cutrone on their roster, following his disappointing stint with Wolves. He cost Wolves £24.8 million but only scored three goals in 28 games. He was loaned out to Fiorentina, Valencia, and Empoli before joining Como for a nominal sum in August 2022.
