Eddie Howe shares very honest verdict on selling Newcastle’s Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest’s summer has gotten off to a strong start, with the club hoping to make moves during the transfer window.

The Reds have also had a successful start to pre-season, with Nuno Espirito Santo leading his team unbeaten in their first two friendlies.
This summer, Forest fans have already seen five new faces come through the doors at the City Ground, and that number may increase.

Talks about the potential addition of Riquelme Fillip are now said to be progressing, with Forest confident of reaching an agreement quickly.

The biggest addition this summer has been Elliot Anderson, who joined from Newcastle United last month.

And his former manager, Eddie Howe, recently shared his candid thoughts on the midfielder’s departure from Tyneside.

Forest paid around £35 million to sign Anderson this summer, which is a significant sum for a player who was not a regular at Newcastle.
Odysseas Vlachodimos went the opposite way, leaving Forest for the Toon for an undisclosed fee.

However, Newcastle was forced to sell Anderson as they, like Forest, faced the PSR deadline last month.

Newcastle, like Forest, was able to balance the books, but they did so after losing one of their most promising youngsters.

During Newcastle’s pre-season trip to Germany, Howe expressed his disappointment in losing Anderson.

“Elliot was very sad for us because he was a player we adored, both on and off the pitch. “Everyone here at Newcastle has worked extremely hard to develop him and his abilities,” Howe told the Newcastle YouTube channel.

“And through PSR, we really had to, the club was forced into a decision through no fault of his own, and I just, yeah, it didn’t sit well with me, but it was almost something we had to do.”

“We had no choice. We wish Elliott well. I am confident that he will have an unbelievable career.”

Elliot Anderson has made a promising start at Nottingham Forest.
Anderson made his Reds debut last weekend, playing 45 minutes against Chesterfield.

In addition, he was given the second half of the game in Spain against his boyhood rivals Sunderland on Friday.

The 21-year-old impressed in his second appearance for Forest, with journalist Sarah Clapson waxing lyrical about the summer signing.

“Positive from the start. He created an early opportunity for himself with a good run into the box. “I latched onto Sangare’s pass and worked the custodian,” she wrote in the Nottingham Post.

Clearly, Howe was devastated to lose the Newcastle academy product, and he is already beginning to demonstrate why.
