Sources: Everton to allow Beto sale after Calvert-Lewin twist
Everton want to sell Beto this summer, but a move will depend on the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, sources have told Football Insider.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Beto’s future will be determined by whether they can keep Calvert-Lewin beyond the transfer window.
Everton, on the other hand, is determined to keep their first-choice striker rather than lose him for free or at a reduced price in 2025.
Everton to allow Beto’s sale amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract negotiations
Calvert-Lewin joined Everton in 2016 for a £1.5 million fee from Sheffield United, and he has since made 247 Merseyside appearances, scoring 68 goals.
He has had a string of injuries and missed 97 games in his eight years at Goodison Park, raising concerns about his long-term availability.
While Everton would prefer to keep him this summer, they may look to sell in order to raise funds rather than letting him leave for free next year.
Meanwhile, sources have told Football Insider that preliminary talks have begun regarding the sale of Beto to Bologna after Sean Dyche approved his exit.
The Brazilian joined from Udinese last summer but has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, making only 12 starts under Dyche.
Everton are now looking to cut their losses on the striker, having paid £26 million to bring him to Goodison Park just a year ago.
Calvert-Lewin’s decision on a new contract could have a domino effect in the transfer window if he chooses to join a rival Premier League club.
