Fabrizio Romano Delivers Matt O’Riley Celtic Update

Fabrizio Romano revealed that negotiations are currently underway to find a solution that will satisfy both Celtic and Atalanta regarding the sale of Matt O’Riley. The Italian club has bid €17/18 million for the Danish international, but Celtic are demanding a higher fee.

O’Riley has attracted interest from several European clubs, including Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Roma. Last season, the 23-year-old was Celtic’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year, with 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 games.

Despite interest from other clubs, Celtic are determined to keep O’Riley, who has three years left on his contract at Parkhead. The Scottish champions are reportedly seeking a fee of between £25 and £30 million for the midfielder, making him their most expensive sale ever.
The Italian club could be the ones to entice Celtic into a sale. The Serie A side has already made three bids for the midfielder, the most recent worth €17/18 million.

Celtic fans will be hoping that O’Riley can stay with the club for another season, as Brendan Rodgers‘ side looks to improve their European performance. The Danish international has been a key player for the Hoops since joining from MK Dons under Ange Postecoglou, and his departure would be a significant setback to the club’s ambition.

As negotiations continue, it is unclear whether Atalanta will match Celtic’s valuation of the midfielder or if another club will make a higher offer. For the time being, O’Riley will continue to play for Celtic.
