Watford are set to sign Toulouse defender Kevin Keben by the end of this week, according to French outlet Les Violets.

Watford hope to complete their squad by the end of next week.

Tom Cleverley’s side hasn’t had the smoothest summer, and many expected them to struggle this year, especially with an inexperienced manager.

However, the former Manchester United and Watford midfielder has made an impressive start to his time at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets could use one or two new faces to help cover certain positions, and it appears they will get one more this week.

According to reports, Toulouse’s Keben is on his way to the Championship and could join Watford by the end of this week. According to the report, a medical is scheduled, with a fee of approximately €1 million.

An exciting prospect.

The 20-year-old defender appeared in just eight Ligue 1 games last season. He struggled to get a run of games in the Toulouse side, often ending up on the bench or out of the squad entirely.

He can play right back or centre back, and his versatility could prove useful over the course of a full season in the Championship, where injuries are common.

Keben rose through the ranks at Toulouse, but it appears that now is the best time for him to move on and play more consistent first-team football in the hopes of furthering his career.

While he only has 19 appearances in France’s top tier, his experience should put him in a good position for the move to Watford, and he still has time and space to develop and grow as a player.

Looking forward.

Cleverley explains why Asprilla was only watching Watford | Watford Observer

Watford are one of only three teams to have won their first two league games this season.

The Hornets scraped past Millwall on the opening day, but comfortably dismissed of Stoke City last time out.

Cleverley’s team will understand that it is still far too early to relax, but they are showing very promising signs thus far.

The team’s next game is at home against newly promoted Derby County.

Paul Warne’s side will be underdogs going into this game, but the Rams surprised many by defeating Middlesbrough last time out.

However, with Burnley playing Sunderland in a top-two clash, Watford has the perfect opportunity to jump into the top two and maintain their strong start.

Keben may have crossed the line by then, and if so, it will be interesting to see if he is involved in any way, or if Cleverley gives him time to adjust to his new surroundings before incorporating him into the matchday plans.
