‘Only a loan’: Watford manager Tom Cleverley refuses to rule out striker return.
Despite Mileta Rajovic’s loan move to Brondby, Watford manager Tom Cleverley believes he still has a future at the club.
Watford has temporarily allowed the attacker to leave through the exit door. He will spend the season in the Danish Superliga before returning to Hertfordshire next year.
Rajovic, 25, is under contract with the Hornets until June 2028, so he has a few years left on his contract with the Championship club. He joined them last year and has now scored 14 goals in 48 games across all competitions.
According to the club’s website, Cleverley stated, “This is only a loan and we see this as part of a development plan for Mileta – not an exit plan. Mileta is a player who trains every day in the way I love players to train and the way I used to approach my work; focused, committed and determined to improve.
“In terms of his career, he’s destined to make the best out of his potential because of his great attitude towards his work. I wanted to be fair to Mileta and have him get a lot more game time than is likely on offer if he stays with us right now, given the other options we’ve been able to add and, to a degree, our preferred formation.
“As I said, it’s only a loan and we absolutely don’t want to rule out working with Mileta in the future.”
Watford striker’s latest
Brondby do not have the option to buy Rajovic when his loan expires.
His return to Denmark is an opportunity for him to get regular game time under his belt.
The attacker has previously played for Brondby as a youngster, as well as AB, Randers, B.93, HB Koge, Roskilde, Naestved, and Kalmar.
Watford signed him just over a year ago, and he arrived in England as a bit of an unknown quantity.
However, he performed admirably last season, scoring 11 goals. The forward has already scored three goals this season but has now been given permission to leave on a temporary basis.
What’s next for Watford?
As Cleverley mentioned, Rajovic’s career at Watford isn’t over yet, and they’ll evaluate his situation later.
The Hornets were defeated 1-0 away at Sheffield United last time out.
They enter the international break in third place, trailing only Sunderland and West Brom, and face Coventry City at home on September 14.
