Chris Sutton discusses whether he believes Brendan Rodgers would leave Celtic for West Ham now.
West Ham United’s poor start to the season has prompted questions about manager Julen Lopetegui.
Indeed, despite what appeared to be a successful transfer window on paper, West Ham are struggling this season.
Lopetegui is already under pressure, and in some circles, potential replacements are being discussed.
Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton spoke with a West Ham fan who suggested Brendan Rodgers as a possible replacement for Lopetegui.
Of course, as a former Celtic player, Sutton had plenty to say about this, claiming that Rodgers would not leave the Scottish club for West Ham right now.
Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t leave Celtic for West Ham
Sutton announced his decision on whether Rodgers would leave Celtic.
“I think Scott Parker, he’s a good leader, another possible name I think would do a good job is Brendan Rodgers,” said the person who called.
“He’s at a huge club north of the border. Come on, he wouldn’t downgrade and go to West Ham now,” Sutton said.
Brendan Rodgers did this before.
Sutton is confident Rodgers will not leave Celtic for West Ham, but we are not so sure.
Let us not forget that in 2019, Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester City.
There’s a legitimate argument that West Ham is just as big as Leicester, if not bigger, and if an exciting Premier League project presented itself to Rodgers again, he might leave.
Of course, after being fired by Leicester in 2023, Rodgers may now understand that the grass isn’t always greener, but the lure of the Premier League will always be strong.
Rodgers appears to be committed to Celtic at the moment, but as we saw many years ago, the right offer can tempt the Northern Irishman away from Celtic Park.
It’d be interesting to see what Rodgers would do if West Ham made him an offer.
