Gustaf Lagerbielke makes Twente debut with result against Man Utd
Gustaf Lagerbielke, a defender for Celtic, helped FC Twente, a loan team, to a historic victory at Old Trafford by coming off the bench. Following Christian Eriksen’s incredible goal in the first half, Erik ten Haag’s team looked like they would win the Europa League on opening night.
Sam Lammers, a Rangers misfit, however, stunned Old Trafford with a goal in the 68th minute to give the Dutch team a draw. Lagerbielke was able to enter the game to ensure they could withstand United’s late charge.
Lagerbielke stated prior to the match that he will eventually play for Twente on the field. The 24-year-old thought he did a good job adjusting to life after leaving Celtic on loan.
As reported by The Sun, the Swede admitted he was looking forward to getting onto the pitch.
“I feel like playing is just around the corner, and I’m excited about that.”
I think I’ve adapted well and am having fun here.
“A loan would be highly beneficial for all parties as the club and I felt that I didn’t get much playing time at Celtic.
After that, I thought over my alternatives and found that a few clubs across numerous nations were interested. I met with various clubs and weighed the benefits and drawbacks of each.
“It seemed like a great fit after the meeting with Twente.
“Their training methodology is distinctly development-oriented. They have a tiny squad, and each member is given a great deal of responsibility.
That felt like the ideal combination, as did competing in the excellent Dutch league and the Europa League.
It’s about having the ability to play and contribute significantly to the team. Development follows from that.
“I’m not concerned about not playing right now.
“I think this is the best point in my career,” I feel that way about every aspect of my abilities—physical, tactical, technical, mental, and otherwise. I think I’m in a great spot right now.
“I feel like I’m at my best level ever in football, and I just hope to show that on the field soon too,” the player said.
Lagerbielke’s confidence will have increased as a result of playing for Twente, and he plans to continue his career in the Netherlands.
Following a recommendation from Carl Starfelt’s agent, who moved to La Liga to join Celta Vigo, Lagerbielke joined with Celtic. With Maik Nawrocki scheduled to join in the summer, the £3 million move was anticipated to be a replacement for his countryman. But the Swedish central defense only made 10 appearances and scored one goal, in the UCL victory over Feyenoord.
