Tributes paid to ‘passionate’ Glasgow councillor who died
Following a medical diagnosis, a Glasgow councilman passed away.
Having spent the majority of his life in the city, Kenny McLean, an SNP councillor, was elected in the Partick district in 2007 and served as a representative for Kelvindale and Partick East.
In addition, he served as the city convenor for housing, public realm, and neighborhoods.
In a heartfelt remembrance, the Glasgow SNP group confirmed his passing on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson said: “We are devastated to share the news that our dear friend and colleague Cllr Kenny McLean has died after an illness which he bore with his usual cheerfulness. Kenny was an SNP Glasgow councillor since 2007 and a tireless campaigner for Scotland and social justice.
“Kenny was a fervent advocate for St. Mirren, his residents, his ward Partick, community-led housing associations, and Scottish independence.
He was straightforward, sensible, witty, compassionate, and completely honest. He was a friend to so many people, and we will miss him more than he could have imagined.

Soon, the council member received a barrage of condolences, from Labour MSP Paul Sweeney, who expressed his sadness, saying, “I’m very sorry to hear of Councillor McLean’s passing.” I was first introduced to him at the 2017 @GetGlesgaMoving campaign hustings, when he made a strong case for enhancing the city’s public transportation system. We shall all keep trying to make that goal a reality. I hope he finds peace.”
Writer Stuart McMillian, MSP, expressed regret upon reading this. I will always remember Kenny as a happy, cheerful, and smiling man. He was truly a wonderful person. Farewell, Kenny.”
The Scottish Greens’ Pollokshields councillor, Jon Molyneux, continued, saying, “I’m really sorry to hear this. What a tragically large loss. My sympathies are with Kenny’s family and friends, as well as the entire SNP organization, naturally.”
Thomas Kerr, the Scottish Conservative councillor for Shettleston, posted on Facebook: “I am deeply saddened by the news of Kenny’s passing. He was a dedicated local councillor who was consistently upbeat and enthusiastic.” Considering his family and the entire SNP Group.”
