Chris Sutton Warns Celtic Fans: Don’t Expect Saturday Dortmund Clue
Former Hoops striker Chris Sutton has advised Celtic supporters not to get too hung up on Brendan Rodgers’ team selection for the game, especially when it comes to guessing how the team will line up in their upcoming European tie against Borussia Dortmund, as the team gets ready for their match against St Johnstone this coming weekend.
Many supporters might be tempted to view Saturday’s fixture as a preview of the side Rodgers will field in Germany. However, Sutton was quick to dismiss this idea, suggesting that the domestic and European contexts are worlds apart. “I don’t believe Saturday’s selection when Celtic face St Johnstone will offer Dortmund clues,” Sutton wrote in his Record Sport column.
The Celtics legend continued by saying that Rodgers will probably start his best lineup at McDiarmid Park in an effort to win crucial league points. That does not imply, though, that the Hoops’ strategy will be effective against the Bundesliga’s top teams. Sutton believes that a lot will rely on how Rodgers sees the game going and that the Celtic manager will modify his strategy to meet Dortmund’s push.
