Alistair Johnston injury latest
Alistair Johnstone has been left off the Canadian roster in order to focus on his injury recuperation.
The defender lasted fewer than 45 minutes of the September international against the USA, was hauled off and returned to Celtic to treat with a hamstring issue.
Due to a back problem, Johnston was only able to play for 86 minutes during Tuesday night’s loss to Borussia Dortmund before Tony Ralston came on as a substitute.
The New York Times/Athletic report:
In September, 50-year-old (Jesse) Marsh pledged to “broaden the player pool, specifically for younger players” in his squad.
Absentees include Celtic defender Alistair Johnston and Marseille midfielder Ismael Kone, who continue to work their way back from minor injuries. Montreal midfielder Samuel Piette and Portland Timbers centre-back Kamal Miller are out of the squad.
Next week, Canada will play a friendly match against Panama. Marsh plans to use the break to offer his men a lengthier training camp in order to integrate players who will be promoted from the u-21 group.
