SCHMEICHEL’S DENMARK ANGUISH
KASPER SCHMEICHEL’S heroics went for nothing when he was beaten by a deflected shot in Denmark’s 1-0 loss in their UEFA Nations clash against Spain in Murcia.
Before the European champions scored the winning goal eleven minutes from time, the Celtic goalie had already stopped Alvarez Morata twice.
Martin Zubimendi’s effort from outside the box caught Schmeichel off surprise as it deflected off a Danish defender and eluded the goalkeeper low to his left.
The Real Sociedad midfielder, who was fortunate to have his first-time effort strike an opponent’s heel on its way into the net, was the recipient of the ball after the Hoops shotstopper had been upset during the build-up, having also appealed for a foul committed by Mikle Merino against Victor Nelsson.
