Leeds United vs Watford injury update: 6 out, but 2 passed fit after injury scares
Watford will face Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Watford travel to in-form Leeds United on Tuesday night, looking to rebound from a 3-0 loss to rivals Luton Town the previous weekend.
The Hornets have lost three of their last five Championship games, including three-goal defeats to Norwich City, Preston North End, and the Hatters. During that same run of games, they defeated Sunderland and Middlesbrough 2-1.
However, they will face what is arguably their toughest test of the season when they visit Elland Road on Tuesday evening. Leeds come into the game fresh off a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United, the Blades’ first loss this season. Watford can draw level on points with the Whites with a win in West Yorkshire, and ahead of the game, we’ve compiled the latest injury news from both camps, with mixed results for the Championship duo.
Leeds United injury updates
Leeds have no new injury concerns ahead of their match against Watford, as Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu, and Max Wober are the only players out. Manor Solomon and Daniel James returned to the squad against Sheffield United, but star forward Willy Gnonto received a minor scare.
The Italian sustained an apparent shoulder injury early Friday but recovered. Farke gave an update on Monday, saying, “I was very close to substituting him.” “I was very close [to substituting him]. I brought Manor Solomon to the bench and had taken off his tracksuit, but Willy gave a signal that it was getting better. I was a bit nervous after the game, sometimes with adrenaline you can get through but there’s a serious injury. We scanned him and thankfully it was just a bruise so he is available.”
Out: Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu and Max Wober. Doubts: None.
Watford Injury News
Watford received mixed news, with Dan Bachmann passed fit to face Leeds, but defender Angelo Ogbonna will be out for a few weeks. Jeremy Ngakia and Kevin Keben are both nearing their respective returns, but Hornets manager Tom Cleverley believes Tuesday is too soon for them.
He stated, “The early signs for Angelo are not great and it looks like he’s had a recurrence of the hamstring issue he suffered at the end of the Middlesbrough game. He’ll miss out tomorrow night. He had a scan this morning and I expect him to be out weeks rather than months. The timing of Francisco Sierralta returning has happened at a very good time. Jeremy Ngakia is getting very close and should be available for selection against Blackburn, as is the case with Kevin Keben and I’m excited about his return and how well he’s looking in training.”
Bachmann returned despite a minor thigh injury and will be available for selection. Cleverley stated: “After Friday’s training session we had no hint of risk that he was playing. That quickly materialised in the game though, and he wasn’t quite right. He feels much better now, and he’s passed his fitness test and is available for tomorrow’s game.”
Out: Jeremy Ngakia, Angelo Ogbanna, Kevin Keben. Doubts: None.
