Gian Piero Gasperini after Atalanta’s draw v Celtic: “I had never seen Celtic so perched”
Despite the sad outcome, manager Gian Piero Gasperini has commended his team’s performance after Atalanta, a Serie A team, was held to a goalless draw at home by Celtic.
Throughout the game, La Dea dominated possession and consistently forced Celtic back into their own half, which is uncommon in and of itself. Even though Mario Pasalic struck the post in the first half, Atalanta was unable to locate a final ball, which let them down and prevented them from creating many clear-cut opportunities.
Even though there was no outcome, Gasperini praised his team’s efforts to push Celtic deeper in his post-match interview with Sky Italia.
The Italian said, as relayed by TuttoAtalanta:
“In Venice we had facilitated to have unlocked the game immediately, which did not happen to us this evening. I had never seen Celtic so perched and closed, in terms of consistency we had a good game. We lacked quality.”
Aside from their match against Arsenal a few weeks ago, in which Matteo Retegui missed a crucial penalty, this is the second game of the competition that Atalanta should have won.
It remains to be seen if they survive to repent these lost points.
