Rodgers teases two Wednesday Celtic Park returns

Published

on

Brendan Rodgers has hinted at the return of two important players ahead of Celtic’s match against Dundee in the middle of the week. Greg Taylor, who has missed the previous four games, and Cameron Carter-Vickers (CCV), who is making a comeback from a toe injury, are both in the running for selection on Wednesday night.

Carter-Vickers made his comeback on Sunday during Celtic’s win over Motherwell, getting a brief run-out to start regaining his match fitness. Rodgers is keen not to rush the defender back after his spell on the sidelines but was pleased to see him back in action. Speaking about CCV’s return, Rodgers told Celtic TV, “Cameron Carter-Vickers came in and got some game time, which was good for him. He needs to build up that match fitness.”

Although he didn’t play, Greg Taylor was also listed in the squad on Sunday. But the fact that he is on the bench indicates that he is nearing a comeback and might be involved on Wednesday. Regarding the left-back’s condition, Rodgers stated, “Greg Taylor was on the bench.” didn’t appear, but it should make many of them accessible on Wednesday. We’ll see about one or two more.

Pivotal Night in the Premiership Title Race

The stakes are high for Wednesday’s game because Celtic leads the Premiership on goal differential. It might be a pivotal night in this early stage of the title race when Aberdeen, who are closing the gap on Celtic, play Rangers the same evening. In addition to keeping Celtic ahead, a victory over Dundee would put pressure on both teams playing at Pittodrie.

The return of Carter-Vickers and Taylor will be crucial to enhancing Rodgers’ defensive options as he attempts to keep the team young and competitive. However, a major debate point is who the Irishman will dump for CCV in the long run.
