Four-time loser aims to put an end to Celtic pain.
LUKE McCOWAN was a four-time loser in Celtic’s games against Dundee last season.
The midfielder suffered as he finished second best in all four meetings between the teams, including a 7-1 thrashing at Parkhead the previous time the two sides met in February.
McCowan was part of the team that lost 3-0 at the same venue in September of last year, and Brendan Rodgers’ side repeated the result at Dens Park on Boxing Day.
That was followed by a goal avalanche in Glasgow’s east end after the turn of the year, and the 26-year-old Greenock-born midfielder brought an end to a string of setbacks on Tayside in April with a double from James Forrest, giving the Hoops a 2-1 win and keeping the champions on track for a third consecutive title.
However, four months later, McCowan’s football fortunes were turned upside down when he joined his boyhood heroes for a bargain £1 million transfer from Dundee on transfer deadline day.
The energetic operator made his first start for his dream team in a 3-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park over the weekend, and he marked the occasion by scoring the opening goal.
McCowan, who will miss Saturday’s Premier Sports League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen due to a Cup tie, is hoping to be given the go-ahead by his manager to start against his former teammates tonight.
And the wholehearted operator, who is a favourite with the Celtic faithful, is hoping to reverse last season’s painful trend and emerge victorious from Paradise.
Good luck, Luke!
