Santiago Giménez speaks about transfer situation after Nottingham Forest summer drama

Nottingham Forest showed genuine interest in Feyenoord player Santiago Giménez during the summer transfer window.

Before the Dutch club accepted Nottingham Forest’s offering, they made several more offers. However, the striker had no interest in joining the Reds.

Nottingham Forest has failed to make it to Europe, while Feyenoord is in the Champions League. The 23-year-old rejected the Premier League team earlier this month, citing European football as the reason.

The Mexico international has given an interview to TUDN and his comments are relayed by 1908.nl. He would have fulfilled his dream of playing in one of the top five European leagues by accepting a move to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Giménez doesn’t seem to regret this decision and remains optimistic of moving in the future. The frontman has explained why he’s confident the Eredivisie side won’t put any obstacles in the way of his transfer.

“From the moment I came here I was told, and I saw, that this club trains and sells players. I have seen it in the last transfer window, where 15 players have been sold,” he said.

“That also gives you the confidence that if you do well, your dream of playing in the top five leagues in the world will come closer. I know that can happen at some point, and I try to train hard every day. We’ll see what happens.”

In July 2022, Feyenoord signed the Mexican from Cruz Azul, bringing him to Europe. In his first season, he played a key role in the team’s championship victory.

Giménez has recorded 53 goals and 13 assists in 93 games with Feyenoord, although he is now out due to an injury.
