The reason for Celtic vs Aberdeen delayed kick-off in Premier Sports Cup semi-final
All the talk before the Premier Sports Cup semi-final was over.
Celtic and Aberdeen took to the field at Hampden Park this evening, and both teams were ready to go for the 5.30pm kickoff in an attempt to reach the season’s first finale showpiece.
As both made their way onto the pitch, the fanbase’s pyrotechnics caused smoke plumes to billow across the grass, preventing the game from being played on time.
Referee Kevin Clancy delayed the action due to the pre-match pyro show, and visibility issues were cited as reasons for the whistler’s decision.
VAR was thought to be unable to see the pitch clearly, affecting the drawing of lines for offside decisions and other similar issues.
However, it only took 15 minutes for the smoke to clear, allowing the Dons to kick off from left to right.
The match between the two clubs is the big game of the weekend, with both teams leading the pack in the Scottish Premiership.

So far, neither team has been defeated in the league, with Brendan Rodgers’ side leading the division by a goal difference.
The two last met last month, when Jimmy Thelin’s surprise troops rallied after the break to come back from two goals down and earn a point at Parkhead.
Reo Hatate and Kyogo gave the Hoops a commanding lead in the first half, but goals from Ester Sokler and Graeme Shinnie turned the game on its head.
Celtic will face Aberdeen for a spot in the Premier Sports Cup Final in December.
This evening’s match at the national stadium marks the first of two semi-finals this weekend.
Motherwell face Rangers tomorrow afternoon for a chance to advance to the December final.
