Celtic hero Reo Hatate makes brilliant admission about the Scottish accent
Reo Hatate’s struggles trying to understand the Scottish accent
For foreign players, it’s understandable how difficult it can be to pick up the Scottish accent, especially given that it’s rich and deep.
Hatate acknowledged that it has been difficult to understand and that he is making a concerted effort to “keep studying English.”
Since McGregor is Celtic’s captain, you can assume that he talks a lot. Additionally, since he plays midfield with him, communication with him is probably the most crucial.
The Japanese athlete informed Celtic TV what transpires when he communicates with some of his teammates or those Scottish-based players, coaches, and club employees.
“The accent is definitely tough,” said Hatate. “During matches, when I communicate with my teammates, they often abbreviate my message and respond ten times faster than expected, which can be hard to understand.
“But I have realised how crucial it is to communicate effectively on the pitch. It made me feel strongly that I need to keep studying English to communicate better with the team.”
