Rangers Manager Philippe Clement Considered a Strong Candidate for National Team Role
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has reportedly become the frontrunner to take over as Belgium’s national team manager, as per Rangers Review.
The outlet reported on 18 November that current Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco is expected to be dismissed by the Belgian FA. Clement is said to be leading a shortlist of five candidates for the position, following the appointment of his former mentor and chief executive, Vincent Mannaert, as the Belgian FA’s sports director.
Rangers Fans May Welcome Clement’s Departure
Many Rangers supporters would likely view this development positively, given the team’s difficult start to the season. The club currently sits nine points behind not only Celtic but also Aberdeen, a team that operates on significantly fewer resources than Rangers.
Clement has faced criticism from the fanbase, with boos ringing out at Ibrox, making it clear he is not a popular figure among supporters. His potential exit could therefore be seen as a relief for fans.
Additionally, should the Belgian FA move to secure Clement’s services, they would need to pay Rangers compensation, rather than the club having to incur costs by dismissing him.
This scenario could represent a win-win situation for Rangers: the departure of an underperforming manager and financial gain from the compensation.
Whether Clement decides to take the role remains to be seen, but the situation is certainly one to watch closely.
