Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is reportedly in advanced discussions to invest in KTM’s MotoGP team, which has long-standing ties with Red Bull.

The move comes as KTM’s parent company faces financial challenges that may force the sale or closure of its motorsport operations.

A Shift in Hamilton’s Career

Hamilton, who had a disappointing 2024 F1 season, finishing seventh and far behind champion Max Verstappen, is gearing up for major changes in 2025. After parting ways with Mercedes, he is set to join Ferrari, partnering Charles Leclerc.

With F1’s 2025 season set to start in March, Hamilton is exploring opportunities outside the racetrack, including a potential ownership stake in KTM, a prominent MotoGP competitor since 2017.

KTM’s Financial Struggles and Hamilton’s Interest

KTM’s parent company has encountered severe financial difficulties, raising the possibility of divesting its motorsport division. Despite sponsorships from major brands like Red Bull and Mobil 1, the team’s future remains uncertain.

Hamilton, with an estimated net worth exceeding £300 million, could be a key investor to secure KTM’s survival. The investment aligns with his known interest in MotoGP and passion for motorsport beyond Formula 1.

KTM Motorsport Director Confirms Discussions

KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer confirmed Hamilton’s interest, telling Speed Week:

> “All I can say is that we have had very interesting discussions with his management.

> “It is no secret that Lewis Hamilton is interested in MotoGP and is thinking about having his own team. There are concrete discussions here too. The current situation is making us creative and open to new discussions. So we are not only open to sponsors, as has been the case so far, but also to investors.”

Implications of Hamilton’s Investment

Hamilton’s potential involvement could stabilize KTM’s MotoGP team while giving the F1 icon a foothold in another premier motorsport discipline. His global brand and financial resources could also elevate KTM’s competitiveness and visibility.

As the 2025 F1 season approaches, Hamilton’s pursuit of a MotoGP team adds an intriguing dimension to his evolving motorsport legacy.
