Cyriel Dessers exit update today as Clement gets Rangers board assurance
Cyriel Dessers is set to remain at Rangers after assurances from the board to manager Philippe Clement, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.
The newspaper reports in its print edition (back page, 3 February) that the Ibrox hierarchy has guaranteed the Belgian boss that no further outgoings will weaken the squad before the transfer deadline.
Speculation over the Nigerian striker’s future has persisted throughout the winter transfer window, with Italian club Cagliari expressing interest in signing him.
However, it now appears that the 30-year-old will not be leaving the Govan side this season, despite his frustrations over limited playing time.
Dessers to stay at Rangers?
The experienced forward seemed destined for an Ibrox exit after being pushed down the pecking order under Clement due to the impressive form of Hamza Igamane and Danilo.
Speaking to the media in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun on 16 January, Dessers hinted that the club could offload him during the winter window, expressing a desire for regular playing time, whether at Rangers or elsewhere.
It appeared he had given up after those comments, but that narrative has shifted as the Nigerian striker has experienced a resurgence in recent weeks.
The former Cremonese star has been pivotal for the Gers lately, contributing six goals and an assist in his last six matches, including key strikes against Aberdeen, Fraserburgh, Manchester United, and Dundee United.
With 18 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season, the Bears forward looks set to continue adding to that tally if he stays at Ibrox.
