Another new Singing for FC Cincinnati

Middlesbrough left-back Lukas Engel has finalized a loan move to MLS side Cincinnati, where he will stay until December.

The 26-year-old’s exit follows a challenging season at Teesside, where he struggled for game time and fell further down the pecking order after Ryan Giles arrived on loan from Hull City last month.

Engel, who joined Boro from Silkeborg in the summer of 2023, made 53 appearances for the club but only featured 12 times in the 2024-25 season. His departure is part of a significant reshuffle at Boro, who bolstered their squad with permanent and loan signings, including Giles, Morgan Whittaker, Mark Travers, George Edmundson (whose loan was made permanent), Kelechi Iheanacho, and Sammy Illing-Junior.

Several players also moved on during this transfer window. Isaiah Jones, Matt Clarke, and Ajay Matthews secured permanent transfers to Luton, Derby, and Millwall, respectively, while Emmanuel Latte Lath made a record-breaking move to Atlanta United in the MLS.

Boro, currently preparing for a crucial fixture against Sheffield United on Wednesday night, will hope their restructured squad can push them toward a strong second half of the season.
