The Cleveland Browns moved on to the next round of their offseason workouts this week, hosting mandatory minicamp. This will be the final official session for both newbies and veterans to develop chemistry before training camp later this summer.

Unfortunately, one of the team’s recent additions was unable to participate on Tuesday due to injury.

Jerry Jeudy, a wide receiver with the Browns, was unable to attend this session due to a “minor” health issue, revealed by the team. According to Cleveland.com’s Mark Kay Cabot, Jeudy’s exercise participation has been inconsistent during the offseason, and head coach Kevin Stefanski said after practice that the veteran is “working through some things.”

This update from Deshaun Watson’s recently acquired new target is far from ideal, for a variety of reasons. These early sessions are ideal for Jeudy to establish a rapport with his quarterback, but being on and off the field will benefit neither player.

Then there’s the reality that the Browns are dealing with further controversy at wide receiver as Amari Cooper holds out for a contract extension. Jeudy could lead this unit at minicamp without Cooper, but his health is holding him back.

Jeudy has fought with injuries on numerous occasions. The Alabama standout sustained a torn meniscus in college before missing six games in 2021 due to a high-ankle injury.

Jeudy missed two more games in 2022 due to another ankle injury. And in 2023, Jeudy was carted off during training camp with a hamstring strain, forcing him to miss Week 1.

The fact that Jeudy is nursing another illness isn’t reason for concern just yet. There is still plenty of time in the offseason for the former first-round choice to work on his body.

However, considering his past, it is concerning that Jeudy is already not at 100% and has yet to play a game for the Browns. Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of things to come for the wide receiver, who recently inked a three-year, $52 million contract deal in March.
