Rangers must be wary of Olympiacos’ hunger for more continental glory ahead of their UEFA Europa League match on Thursday, according to John McGarry.

On November 7, the Light Blues will face Olympiacos at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in their fourth Europa League group stage game.

While both teams are tied on points after winning two and losing one of their three games, the Athens-based club is eager to follow their UEFA Conference League victory last season with glory in the Europa League, which McGarry believes is bad news for the Gers.

“Like Rangers, [Jose Luis] Mendilibar’s men found Lyon too hot to handle, but have gleaned six points from Braga and Malmo,” McGarry wrote in his column on the Scottish Daily Mail‘s print edition (6 November, page 66).

“The bad news for Philippe Clement’s side as they prepare for the hostility of the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium tomorrow is that the mother of all parties [that followed their success in the Conference League] has not affected the Greeks’ appetite for another one.”

Philippe Clement has had a difficult time at Ibrox recently, with the club struggling both on and off the pitch due to well-documented issues.

Rangers have fallen nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, and the Belgian faces the sack if things do not improve quickly.

The Light Blues advanced to the League Cup final with a 2-1 win over Motherwell at the weekend, but their performance was far from convincing.

All eyes are on Clement and his team to see if they will perform under the lights in Athens on Thursday.

Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team has won three of their last four games in all competitions and is expected to face a “fiery” crowd on Thursday.

A win would give Rangers a huge confidence boost and give Clement some time to get things back on track in Govan.
